Leaders in Action
Program Director: Erin Gingrich
What
is Leaders in Action?
Leaders in Action (LIA) is a program for high
school students who are interested in leadership training and substance abuse prevention.
Ideally, schools send teams of at least three participants to this four-day
residential training. Workshops include topics such as: communication skill,
conflict resolution, teambuilding, diversity, healthy relationships, stress
management, violence, suicide prevention, drug/alcohol awareness.
Participants create action plans during the session for the upcoming school
year. Three follow-up trainings and hands-on assistance from the Program
Director ensure action plan implementation and participant motivation.
What Can LIA do for my
School?
- Develop a team
of active youth focused on prevention issues
- Implement effective action
plans for students-created by students
- Improve school climate
What Can LIA do for Participants?
Provide an opportunity
to take on a leadership role
- Reduce chances of becoming
involved in substance abuse
- Increase and enhance life
skills
- Increase and enhance
self-confidence
- Motivate, motivate, motivate!
What else do I need to know?
In June & July 2003, Green Mountain
Prevention Projects will plan and implement two LIA training
sessions for up to 30 participants each session. One session will be held in
southern Vermont and the other in
northern Vermont. The program fee
is $295/participant, which includes accommodations and meals for four
days/three nights, more than 15 workshops by both GMPP staff and outside
presenters, three follow-up trainings during the school year, individual action
planning assistance for your school as well as unbridled enthusiasm from the
Program Director. Scholarships are available for those in need, and schools
receive a discount if they send three or more participants
