What is the Junior High
Project?
The Junior High Project (JHP) is a substance abuse prevention program that trains middle school students to be leaders in their schools and communities. JHP consists of three essential steps.
PHASE 1 is the residential training weekend during
which participants are taught by professionals,
trained adults and peer staff members about an array of topics ranging from
prevention education to stress management.
PHASE 2 consists of three follow-up sessions which
will take place after the residential weekend. The follow-up meetings include
workshops and small group time to provide opportunities to increase and
reinforce information, skills and self-concept development.
PHASE 3 involves the participants returning to their
schools and working with the school advisor and leadership group to plan and
implement substance abuse prevention activities in their schools and
communities.
